Dish Now Accepts Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Payments from Customers

After pushing through support for Bitcoin payments to its subscription model, Dish, one of the most popular television providers in the United States, adds Bitcoin Cash to the mix.

Dish once again establishes a precedent after becoming the first TV provider to take in Bitcoin payments in 2014. According to an announcement made by the company on Thursday, it is now also the first-ever TV provider to accept Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

The company managed to do this through a partnership with BitPay, a streamlined payments provider for both Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash.

“We’ve added Bitcoin Cash just as we chose to accept Bitcoin to serve customers who have adopted a new way of doing business. We have a steady volume of customers paying with cryptocurrency each month, and BitPay will allow us to continue offering more choice and convenience to our customers,” said Dish CEO John Swieringa.

This is a rather bold move from the company as both cryptocurrencies are in the middle of a bear market. Even if this wouldn’t be the case, their volatility has previously put off a number of other companies, including Steam.

We could, however, see Dish doing such a thing since the company already has plenty of experience accepting BTC from its subscribers.

According to BitPay, Dish will be migrating its BTC integration to the partner’s platform as well, lifting the burden of payment processing away from the TV provider.

“Our goal for Dish Network is a seamless transition to BitPay so all customers who are currently paying for services with Bitcoin continue to have the option to pay with Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. Cryptocurrency is an increasingly popular way for consumers to make purchases online as it reduces credit card fraud and is cheaper for the merchants,” said BitPay CCO Sonny Singh.

It is very likely that BitPay integration will enable Dish to process its customers’ transactions much quicker, providing a more steady experience for those who choose to pay their TV bills using this method.
